ESG / Cleantech Business Delegation to South Korea 2024

The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono is offering six places for emerging New Zealand ESG/cleantech business leaders to be part of a funded delegation to South Korea in May 2024.

This delegation will be joining a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) led ESG/Cleantech Visit Programme to South Korea.

Companies developing or using technology to address global sustainability challenges with a strong interest in South Korea are encouraged to apply.

South Korea is a global leader in innovation with R&D totaling 4.8 percent of GDP (NZ is around 1.4 percent). With a population over 51 million, the investment in environment and sustainable industries continues to grow, with yearly investment currently sitting around 38.9 trillion won ($45 billion NZD). This offers exciting opportunities for New Zealand companies that provide technology-based solutions to sustainable challenges.

Joining the NZTE ESG/Cleantech Programme, the delegation will focus on gaining an understanding of the ESG and cleantech landscape in South Korea, including innovation, government regulation, and investment networks. There will be opportunities for delegates to introduce their solutions directly to large Korean corporates and to expand their networks with like-minded business leaders.

Dependent on the makeup of companies from this application process, a cohort of six ESG / cleantech business leaders will be chosen and funded to attend this bespoke programme.

The final programme will be designed in partnership with NZTE around the successful delegates and their business aspirations.

Tentative dates for this programme are the 26 May to 1 June. Dates will be confirmed closer to the time.

What's covered

The Foundation will cover:

  • return economy airfares to/from South Korea
  • programmed on the ground transportation costs
  • accommodation
  • costs associated with meeting programmed elements (tickets etc).

Participants will need to purchase their own travel insurance (mandatory), pay for their own meals, be responsible for getting to and from their local airport, and meet any costs beyond the prepared programme as well as any personal expenses.

Eligibility and Terms and Conditions

To apply, you must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • have started or be a senior leader in a New Zealand ESG/cleantech business. The business should be solving global sustainability challenges through the use or development of technology.

This opportunity is aimed at supporting individual development; therefore, it is non-transferable.

As this is a funded opportunity, we encourage emerging business leaders and founders of early-stage businesses to apply.  For corporates or those in a position to fully fund themselves, you should submit an expression of interest directly to NZTE to join the programme.

In addition to individual company/business leader potential, the final selection of the delegation will be decided on which makeup of businesses provide the most cohesive delegation. This is to ensure the relevance of in-country meetings for all those on the delegation.
