There's A Tuesday to record and perform in Seoul on music residency
Christchurch indie band There's A Tuesday has been selected for the 2025 Seoul Residency, allowing them to spend ten days working and performing in South Korea's capital city.
There's A Tuesday
The residency, announced in May by the Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono alongside BIG FAN and South Korea's CJ Cultural Foundation, attracted applications from bands from across New Zealand.
There's A Tuesday stood out with their dreamy indie pop sound and thoughtful approach to songwriting.
What's Next for the Band
From July 30 to August 10, the four-piece will be based in Seoul, where they'll record at professional studios and perform at CJ Azit, a respected venue and creative space in the city. They'll also work with local musicians and connect with Seoul's music community.
The band—Nat Hutton and Minnie Robberds on vocals and guitar, Gus Murray on drums, and Joel Becker on bass—has been building momentum in New Zealand through live shows and their atmospheric sound that blends thoughtful lyrics with beautiful melodies.
"We applied thinking there was no way we'd get it, but being chosen for the Seoul Residency is a complete dream," the band says.
"We've been calling each other at random times just to chat about how excited we are—the opportunity to play our music to new crowds in countries far from home is what There's A Tuesday has forever dreamed of."
An Artistic Exchange
"The opportunity to play our music to new crowds in countries far from home is what There's a Tuesday has forever dreamed of."
The residency covers flights, accommodation, and daily expenses, allowing the band to focus entirely on their music and cultural exchange. Seoul's music scene has gained international recognition in recent years, making it an ideal place for New Zealand artists to develop their sound and reach new audiences.
"We're really looking forward to connecting with people within the Seoul music community, exploring the live scene, and playing with a local band," they add. "We truly cannot wait to experience it all."
The partnership between the Asia New Zealand Foundation, BIG FAN, and CJ Cultural Foundation aims to create lasting connections between musicians from both countries, opening doors for future collaborations and cultural exchange.
There's A Tuesday's Seoul adventure begins at the end of July, marking a significant step in their musical journey.
