Todd Wassel

Todd Wassel is The Asia Foundation’s country representative in Thailand, leading regional work across ASEAN and the Mekong at a time when Southeast Asia sits at the center of the global energy transition.

With more than 20 years of experience across Asia, his work focuses on the political economy of climate action—why ambition so often outpaces delivery, and how to close that gap.

Having previously served as country representative in Lao PDR and Timor-Leste, he brings on-the-ground experience from both frontier and emerging economies. In Laos and across the Mekong, he worked on energy transition and nature-based solutions; in Timor-Leste, he focused on land governance and participatory land use—shaping his approach to aligning infrastructure, communities, and environmental outcomes.

Todd works with governments, ASEAN institutions, and development partners to translate climate commitments into investable, scalable pathways, advancing regional power integration, green finance, and environmental safeguards. He holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and is a Certified Expert in Green Finance.
