The Deccan Herald internship, India
The Foundation's Asia Media Centre is offering a journalism internship with the Deccan Herald newspaper in Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). Media internships are offered through the Foundation's Asia Media Centre - set up by to help improve the breadth and depth of coverage of Asia issues in the New Zealand media. Internships provide New Zealand journalism students and recent graduates with experience working at a media organisation in Asia in order to gain a better understanding of the people, places and culture of the host country.
One of the oldest English-language newspapers in Southern India, the Deccan Herald is based in the high-tech city of Bengalaru (Bangalore) in the province of Karnataka.
Launched in June 1948, the Deccan Herald is published every day from a modern newsroom. Its parent company employs nearly 400 journalists across the country, with a combined readership of more than 10.5 million people
The paper has hosted a number of Kiwi interns in the past. The 2024 intern was Jack Marshall, who grabbed a scoop for the paper with his interview of visiting NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters.
Interns are usually placed on the paper’s metro desk, writing news and features on life in and around the sprawling city.
