Rappler Manila internship

The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono is offering a 2026 journalism internship with leading online news agency Rappler in Manila, the Philippines. The Foundation's media internship programme provides New Zealand journalism students and recent graduates with experience working at a media organisation in Asia in order to gain a better understanding of the people, places and culture of the host country.

Rappler is a leading online news organisation in the Philippines, founded in 2012 by renowned journalist Maria Ressa. In 2021, Ressa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her courageous work in safeguarding press freedom, becoming the first Filipino Nobel laureate.

Headquartered in Metro Manila, Rappler covers politics, international affairs, business, technology, environmental, and social issues, with a strong focus on investigative reporting and fact-checking. It is also at the forefront of innovation in Philippine journalism, using data-driven storytelling and artificial intelligence to enhance news gathering, audience engagement, and content verification.

Rappler publishes news and in-depth features daily, reaching millions of readers in the Philippines and abroad through its website and social media platforms. The organisation has previously welcomed participants from the media internship programme, with interns describing their experience as both dynamic and deeply insightful into the realities of modern journalism in the digital age.

Applications open 1 September

The internship will take place between March and May 2026
