Mindfulness - creating a miniature Japanese rock garden
This Y4-8 arts mini-unit has been developed for students to practice mindfulness while designing and creating their own miniature Japanese rock garden.
Students learn about Japanese rock gardens by exploring the karesansui style of traditional Japanese dry landscapes.
Students will follow a three-step guide to create their own miniature Japanese garden and practice mindfulness.
Students record the process of designing their garden, describe the different features and reflect on their own learning.
The three-step guide can be used by people of all ages to create a miniature Japanese rock garden at home.
