In this Year 7-10 physical education unit, students will learn how to be a sumo wrestler through examining the daily life of a sumo wrestler and learning about the history and basic rules and techniques of the Japanese martial art.
Students will have the opportunity to imitate sumo rituals and movements to understand how Japanese social and cultural practices are expressed through the sport of sumo.
A class competition can be held for students to put their learning into action while displaying the dignity and respect of a true sumo wrestler.
