Nicola Ngarewa

Ngāti Ruanui and Ngā Rauru



Nicola Ngarewa (Ngāti Ruanui, Ngā Rauru, and Ngā Ruahine) was appointed Chair of the Te Kura Board of Trustees in July 2022.

Nicola brings extensive governance experience, serving on the Toi Foundation, the Ngāti Ruanui Iwi Board, and Ako Mātātupu. 

She is currently the Principal of Spotswood College in New Plymouth and has previously held principal roles at Tamatea High School and Pātea Area School. She also served as Chairperson of the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. 

With a diverse background across early childhood, primary, secondary, and tertiary education, Nicola is deeply passionate about authentic learning. She is committed to disrupting traditional education models through transformative leadership, and a future-focused vision. 

Her leadership has been widely recognised. In 2013, she received a Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award for her work at Tamatea High School. In 2016, she was named Taranaki Daily News Person of the Year for her transformative impact at Pātea Area School, which later received the National UNESCO Award for Education - Global Citizenship in 2018. 

Nicola is married to Wayne Cribb, and they have two daughters.
