Ben Matthews

Leadership Network Advisory Board Member

Ben is a Policy Practitioner with fourteen years of work and study experience in Māori development and international-related kaupapa.

He holds a Master of International Relations and Diplomacy (with Distinction) from Canterbury University and undergraduate degrees in Japanese Language and International Business from AUT.

Ben has worked across government agencies and currently works as a Policy Analyst at Te Puni Kōkiri, focused on influencing trade policy to reflect Māori interests and building global indigenous connections.

He counts himself fortunate that te reo Māori was his first spoken language and that he was trained by his elders in the art of whaikōrero (Māori oratory).

Ben brings with him expertise in matauranga Māori and tikanga Māori and can apply a Māori worldview to any situation.

As one of the newest Advisory Board members, Ben brings with him a passion to see the network succeed, embrace diversity in all its forms and help members get the most out of their network experience. His long-term career objective is to become a career diplomat, representing Aotearoa-New Zealand overseas.
