Education Champions
Renu Sikka
Kia ora koutou, ko Renu tōku ingoa. Having called New Zealand home for the past 17 years, Renu has dedicated her entire life to education.
She has worked in various leadership roles in schools throughout Aotearoa at all levels.
She has recently been appointed to the role of curriculum lead (kaiārahi marautanga) in Auckland at the Ministry of Education. This is an innovative role, one which she believes is very much in alignment with who she is as an education professional. Renu is passionate about the education system as a whole: curriculum, reform and change, advocating for strengthening well-being through curriculum design and delivery, embracing Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the bicultural nature of Aotearoa.
Renu was one of the recipients to win the ASG NEiTA National Excellence in Teaching Award in 2019 for her enthusiasm and devotion to education in Aotearoa. Renu believes that there’s a huge gap between the strategic importance of Asia - the largest, most populous, fastest growing area of the world - and knowledge of the region in NZ schools.
Renu believes the Champions initiative can help prepare both this country's tamariki and kaiako for life and work in the 21st century.
