Catherine Hyo Myung Park
Born and raised in South Korea, Catherine Hyo Myung has had a varied career path, which began in teaching, before unexpectedly landing in the field of animation. She settled in Aotearoa for several years before once again migrating, firstly to Singapore, then China, before settling in Los Angeles, where she worked closely with the local Korean community.
Upon returning to Aotearoa, she returned to education, where she currently teaches Year 2 students.
Aside from her teaching role, she holds various leadership roles, including as a within-school coach, under the umbrella of Maungakiekie Kāhui Ako. In this position, she is currently seeking to introduce more Asian elements to her school and its wider community.
As a Champion, she is hoping to reconnect and become familiar with modern Asia. In becoming an Asian community ambassador, she strives to create a gateway for young Kiwis to become exposed to life beyond Aotearoa, an initial step in their journey to becoming 21st century global citizens.
Programmes she has previously implemented include, a K-Pop workshop, a Taiko drum performance, and workshops featuring Chinese cultural art and language.
