Education Champions

Carolyn Richardson

Carolyn is a Year 8 teacher at Tauranga Intermediate School in the Bay of Plenty. She has been a primary school teacher for just over six years and prior to this was an ESOL teacher for children and adults. She says connecting students, schools, and communities with Asia enables opportunities for global perspectives.

Carolyn has travelled to India, Nepal, China, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia and her family has also hosted students from Japan, Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. She says her life has been enriched by these experiences and she would love to share what she has learned about language, culture, history and traditions with schools and communities. Carolyn has also taught English as a second language to a range of Asian students of all ages and backgrounds in the U.K. and New Zealand. She has loved learning about their cultures and languages while also being able to share her own.

Carolyn is looking forward to being part of the Champions programme and gaining a deeper understanding of Asian cultures and sharing this knowledge with others.
