Maia Te Hira

Maia Te Hira hails from tribal lands in Wairarapa (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne) and Muriwhenua (Te Rarawa, Ngāi Takoto). She also traces descent from the ancestral village of Gwa Leng, in China’s Guangdong province.

Maia holds a BA from the University of Auckland, an LLB from Victoria University of Wellington, and various tohu reo Māori.

Maia puts her legal background to use in the public service and is passionate about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, mātauranga Māori and raising her children to live as tangata whenua with whakapapa to both Aotearoa and Asia.

Maia is an aspiring entrepreneur, a wannabe creative, and has had an eclectic career spanning fashion, health, and property.  

Maia is a graduate of Kōhanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa Māori Aho Matua and Whare Wānanga Māori.
