Areti is Chief Executive of Te Kupenga, a tertiary education organisation. He is of Māori and Pasifika heritage and has experience as a strategic advisor, researcher and senior manager in the government and high education sectors in Australia and New Zealand and is a director on a number of boards.
Areti has taken part in a number of network opportunities, including participating in an Australia Hui – a hui for our Australian-based members – and has travelled to five Asian countries as a representative of the Network including South Korea in 2017.
On his experience in South Korea, Areti says, “While my trip to South Korea was insightful because of the many interesting elements of Korea’s great culture – the language, the regional politics, the arts, the cuisine, the noraebang (karaoke), and not to mention the soju! – it was particularly meaningful to me because it showed how much the network, and perhaps our country in general, has grown in its understanding and engagement in tikanga and te reo Māori.
