Get a taste of what the ACICIS programme is like

The ACICIS programme typically consists of two weeks’ intensive Indonesian language training and seminars, followed by a four-week supervised industry placement with local or international media or communications organisation operating within Indonesia. The 2024 programme runs from 2 January 2024 to 9 February.

The programme provides an opportunity for students of journalism, media and communication, to gain valuable experience working in the field of media in Indonesia.

What we provide

The Asia New Zealand Foundation will pay the ACICIS fees for a New Zealand participant (worth approximately NZ$6800).

The Foundation will also cover:

  • return airfares to Indonesia
  • accommodation
  • travel insurance
  • a stipend to cover living expenses, such as accommodation and food.

The intern will be required to contribute NZ$500 towards their living expenses.

Eligibility

You must be:

  • A New Zealand journalism graduate or student enrolled in a current journalism course. We will also consider applicants who are able to demonstrate a track record in journalism (e.g. interviewing others for news stories)
  • A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

The programme is designed for students who have no existing Indonesian language skills. Candidates with existing language skills are also welcome. All industry placements provide an English-language working environment.

Requirements and Terms and Conditions

Foundation grantees are expected provide reports on their experience and to seek opportunities to share their experience on their return to New Zealand, and to remain engaged with the Asia New Zealand Foundation. Sharing your experience with others is an important part of this initiative as it enlightens others about developments in Asia.

Grantees are required to write a  600-800-word article (with photos) about their experience (to be submitted during or no longer than one month after returning from the programme), that will be published on the Foundation’s website.

All participants will be required to agree to our standard terms and conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.
