James Waugh
James is a passionate advocate for helping people afflicted by conflict and food insecurity.
James resolved to spend his career in service of others during his post-study travels through West Asia, where he saw and talked to people directly affected by war and famine. This spurred James on to pursue positions in international law and policy.
James is currently a senior trade and international policy specialist at MPI. Through his extensive experience representing Aotearoa New Zealand, James has developed subject matter expertise on global food insecurity andinternational law.
He uses this knowledge to foster dialogue with Asian partners on how to tackle this increasingly contentious global issue.
Outside his role at MPI, James volunteers at the Wellington Community Law Office and the New Zealand Red Cross, where he helps refugees and advocates for humanity in conflict. He holds an LLB(Hons) and BCom in economics from the University of Otago.
