The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono is leading a delegation of emerging New Zealand screen creatives to the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026 in June.

This opportunity is designed for practitioners who are building a professional screen career to build industry connections and develop their understanding of the Indian film industry.

The delegation will take place in mid-June 2026.

Mumbai residency reveals the rich tapestry of Indian embroidery

Paul McLachlan’s six-week residency in Mumbai marked a new direction in his practice, connecting his process-driven painting with the traditions of Indian embroidery. Working closely with local artisans, the residency offered an opportunity to build connections, learn advanced embroidery techniques, and develop new works that merge his painterly approach with traditional Indian craft. Supported by the Asia New Zealand Foundation’s Arts Experience Fund, the experience has fostered ongoing creative relationships and will culminate in a forthcoming exhibition in New Zealand.

Curators spark cultural connections on return to Hanoi

A year after travelling to Viet Nam on the Asia New Zealand Foundation’s emerging curators tour, five of the curators reunited in Hanoi in October—this time joined by three New Zealand artists—for a three-week residency. The residency marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Viet Nam and aimed to foster creative exchange with local partners, culminating in an exhibition featuring the New Zealand artists. The trip was supported by the Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Cultural Diplomacy International Programme (CDIP), and the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi. In this article, curator Simon Palenski reflects on the residency and the connections the group made.
