Young Kiwis heading to Asia for career-building internships

Five young New Zealanders will soon begin internships with organisations across Asia, gaining valuable international work experience and building connections.

The interns will spend three months working with organisations across Asia: KPMG Indonesia, CJ Cultural Foundation (South Korea), The APEC Secretariat (Singapore), and UrbanPiper (India) through the Asia New Zealand Foundation's internship programme.

The Foundation's director of business and entrepreneurship, Tim McCready, says the internship programme is an investment in New Zealand’s future relationship with Asia.

“Asia is central to New Zealand’s economic future, and this programme plays an important role in preparing for it," he says.

He says their experiences will be life-changing for the interns, helping them develop workplace skills and cultural understanding that will serve them throughout their careers.

"Every intern spends three months navigating a new culture, building relationships, and delivering important work – and they carry that experience into their careers, their businesses, and their networks.

“We've seen former interns go on to become some of New Zealand's most Asia-capable professionals. These five are next.”

Since 2009, the Foundation’s internship programme has supported young New Zealanders in developing their professional skills, expanding their networks, and gaining first-hand experience of Asian business cultures and workplaces.
