Indonesia visit for health and beauty entrepreneurs


The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono is offering up to ten young New Zealand health and beauty entrepreneurs and business leaders the chance to visit Indonesia.

The week-long programme will give participants a better understanding of the health and beauty sector in Indonesia and allow participants to attend Cosmobeaute 2023, Indonesia’s largest beauty trade exhibition.

About the trip

Trip dates: 8-15 October, 2023 

During the trip you will: 

  • learn about Indonesia's health and beauty sector and wider business environment
  •  meet and network with entrepreneurs, industry leaders and distributers in Denpasar and Jakarta 
  • connect with government officials from New Zealand and Indonesia 
  • develop a deeper understanding of the culture of the region
  • attend Cosmobeaute 2023, Indonesia’s largest beauty trade exhibition
  • explore business opportunities in the region. 

By going on this trip, you will: 

  • grow your awareness and knowledge of doing business in the region 
  • deepen your connections with key industry representative and entrepreneurs 
  • grow confidence as an entrepreneur and of succeeding offshore. 

The Foundation will work with relevant officials in both New Zealand and Indonesia to deliver the programme. 
 

Who can apply

Applicants must be: 

  • aged under 40.
  • New Zealand citizens or have New Zealand permanent resident status, but can be based offshore .
  • an entrepreneur or business leader at CEO or senior management level at a New Zealand health and beauty business looking for market expansion opportunities in Asia. Outstanding start-up entrepreneurs or emerging entrepreneurs will also be considered.
  • able to attend a pre-departure meeting approximately one month before the travel date. 

No knowledge or experience of Indonesia is expected.  

 

Who we're looking for

We are looking for representatives from Kiwi companies with innovative brands and products who are looking to export to the region.  

We are not looking for companies in the service sector or in the general health sector. 

Applicants should be:

  • interested in connecting with equivalents from other countries and exploring international business opportunities 
  • confident public speakers willing to engage in dialogue with entrepreneurs from other countries 
  • willing to contribute to the Foundation’s leadership and entrepreneurship programmes 
  • able to attend a pre-departure meeting approximately one month before the travel date .

What's covered

The Asia New Zealand Foundation will fund the costs of successful applicants, including:

  • a return economy airfare
  • domestic transport
  • accommodation
  • most meals and miscellaneous expenses.

Participants will need to:

  • cover personal spending money
  • pay for and secure their own visas
  • cover their own insurance costs.  

Selection process

Applications will be assessed by the Asia New Zealand Foundation staff in consultation with external experts, and relevant offshore posts. 

 

Key dates

  • Applications close 5pm, Monday, 31 July.
  • Shortlisted applicants notified mid-August. 
  • Shortlisted applicants accepted late August.
  • Pre-departure briefing mid-September.
  • Delegation departs NZ 8 October.
  • Delegation back in NZ 15 October.

Successful applicants will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

About the Young Business Leaders Initiative (YBLI) 

This opportunity is part of the ASEAN Young Business Leaders Initiative (YBLI), a key part of the New Zealand Government’s ASEAN strategy. The aim of the programme is to facilitate trade and build connections between business leaders and entrepreneurs in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. This is achieved through short, targeted visits to New Zealand and Southeast Asia.  

As of June 2023, 118 business leaders from across all 10 ASEAN member countries representing a range of industries have visited New Zealand. In addition, 55 entrepreneurs from New Zealand have travelled to Southeast Asia.
