China Performing Arts Delegation
The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono invites applications from leaders within established New Zealand performing arts organisations to join the Foundation's Performing Arts Delegation to China.
China is home to one of the world’s largest and most institutionally developed performing arts ecosystems.
Its network of theatres, concert halls, orchestras, performing companies, conservatories and cultural institutions is supported by significant investment in cultural infrastructure and international programming.
Engagement in China is frequently led by large institutions with substantial programming, commissioning and producing capacity. Building trusted relationships between senior organisational leaders is therefore an important foundation for developing future touring, co-production and exchange opportunities.
A central focus of the China Performing Arts programme will be participation in the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts, providing a platform for strategic discussion, sector exchange and relationship-building between New Zealand delegates and Chinese institutional leaders.
Alongside the forum, delegates will have opportunities to connect with senior Chinese performing arts leaders, major cultural institutions and potential presenting and producing partners in Beijing and Shanghai, with connections facilitated by Liu Meridian Group.
The delegation will begin in Beijing with an orientation to China’s contemporary performing arts ecosystem and preparation for the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts, before travelling to Shanghai for further meetings with major venues, festivals and presenting organisations.
The programme will be supported by pre-departure briefings and delegates will be allocated time within the programme for self-directed research or networking.
