About Nutrition Technologies
Nutrition Technologies is pioneering the insects-as-feed industry and recycling nutrients from industrial food waste (such as pineapple pulp and palm kernel cake) into high grade proteins and oils for the animal and feed industries.
Nutrition Technologies have developed their own award-winning processes and technology and have received two rounds of seed funding to establish their pilot production facility.

About the internship
The intern will be given a specific project or meaningful work relevant to their area of study. The intern will be assigned a mentor and supervisor to monitor the intern's professional development.
The internship period is for eight weeks, with a flexible starting date between November 2021 – February 2022.
Interns with agricultural background
Interns with an agricultural background will support the company's product application strategy and engage with the senior management team in the longer-term development planning of the company's scale-up of its facilities.
Interns with data science background
Interns with a science background will support the research and development team and support the product application strategy. They will support the team in critical areas such as data management, research projects and development of data science applications.
Management of the programme
The Asia New Zealand Foundation and Nutrition Technologies will jointly deliver pastoral care and support professional development in cultural competency.
In previous years the Foundation has sent interns to Johor, southern Malaysia to undertake an internship with Nutrition Technologies to gain business experience in the agritech area. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's internship with Nutrition Technologies will be held entirely virtually through remote working.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be New Zealand citizens or have New Zealand permanent resident status
- have completed an agriculture and/or data science degree within the last two years or be due to complete at least two years of their degree by November 2021
- be in good health and interested in animal nutrition
- be adaptable, independent, reliable and resilient
Local language ability is not required.
What's covered
This is a paid internship. Expenses such as purchase of laptops are not covered.
Terms and conditions
The successful applicant will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.
Reporting requirements
Interns are expected to write a 500-600-word article (with accompanying photos) about their internship experience for the Foundation's website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.

Key Dates
- Due to disruptions caused by the Level 4 situation in New Zealand, the deadline for applications for this internship has been extended by one week to 6 September
- Shortlisted applicants will be notified by mid- September 2021.
- Short-listed applicants will be invited to an in-person or online panel interview to select the successful candidate.
- The successful candidate will be advised by early October 2021.
- All selected interns will be supported to attend a group induction day in Auckland in November 2021.
