Genesis BCW
internship, India

The Asia New Zealand Foundation supports final year undergraduate/postgraduate students, and recent graduates in public relations, communications, business, marketing and/or media studies to apply for an internship in India with Genesis BCW.

About the internship

In order to better equip New Zealand businesses to thrive in Asia, the Asia New Zealand Foundation provides opportunities for New Zealanders to gain work experience in the region and to share that knowledge when they return. The internship programme aims to help New Zealanders build a better understanding of the people, environment and culture of their Asian host country.

During the internship, the successful intern will be placed in GBM’s office in Mumbai. He/she will join a team engaged in activities ranging from public relations, campaign planning, event management and media relations.

The intern will be given a specific project or meaningful work to do and a mentoring supervisor will be assigned to monitor the intern’s professional development. The internship period is for three months, starting in early December 2018 and finishing in late February 2019.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:

  • work alongside and learn from experienced PR professionals
  • contribute to PR campaign development and execution
  • learn about media relations (including social media management) in the world’s largest democracy
  • experience working in a busy and award-winning PR agency, which works with global and Indian clients.

  • in good health
  • due to complete at least three years of tertiary study by November 2018 or recent graduate

Ideal candidates will have a pre-existing interest in Asia and will aspire to develop their capacity for working in cross-cultural environments. Strong writing skills are mandatory for this internship.

What’s covered?

The internship costs will be split between the Asia New Zealand Foundation, GBM and the intern.

The Foundation provides a grant as a subsidy to cover round-trip airfares to and from India as well as a financial grant to cover insurance, living expenses, and accommodation costs. GBM will also contribute partially towards accommodation costs.

The selected intern will be required to contribute NZ$500 of their own funds to cover some living expenses while offshore.

Reporting requirements

Foundation interns are expected to provide two reports (web article and final report) on their experience, and to seek opportunities to share their experience on their return to New Zealand, and to remain engaged with the Asia New Zealand Foundation. Sharing your experience with others is an important part of this initiative as it enlightens others about developments in Asia.
