About our arts programme

The Foundation's arts programme supports cultural exchange between Aotearoa and Asia through face-to-face opportunities that create authentic, long-term connections that move beyond the transactional and develop into genuine relationships. The programme offers grants that help arts practitioners build connections across the region, as well as residencies and curated visits to Asia for arts sector delegations.

For more than three decades, the Foundation has played an important role in strengthening New Zealand’s understanding of Asia through people-to-people exchange and the founding of many key cultural events, including the Auckland Lantern and Diwali Festivals.

Through sustained support for artists, curators, producers, and cultural leaders the programme continues to foster a more connected, internationally aware arts sector while also strengthening New Zealand’s cultural presence across the region.

The Foundation currently offers the following programmes of arts funding:

Arts Experience Fund

The Arts Experience Fund supports New Zealand-based arts practitioners by providing grants that support experiential opportunities to strengthen artistic and professional connections with Asia. This includes residencies, work placements, research tours, and exchanges.

Arts Delegation Programme

The Arts Delegation Programme supports New Zealand arts decision-makers to build meaningful, long-term relationships with key organisations and events across Asia.
