The Foundation's media programme supports New Zealand journalists to tell stories about Asia and New Zealand’s ties to the region by helping them access opportunities to travel to the region to cover stories for New Zealand audiences. The programme is delivered by the independent Asia Media Centre.
Our media programme offers media travel grants, internships in Asia-based newsrooms and professional development opportunities for journalism students, early-career journalists and senior media professionals.
The Asia Media Centre has been set up by the Asia New Zealand Foundation to help improve the breadth and depth of coverage of Asia issues in the New Zealand media. The Asia Media Centre also manages opportunities provided by the Foundation's media programme.
Media Travel Grants provide New Zealand journalists with funding to travel independently to Asia to research and prepare stories that help demystify Asia for New Zealand audiences.
The media programme supports New Zealand journalism graduates and early career journalists to intern at news organisations in Asia.
The media programme supports New Zealand journalism students or recent journalism graduates to attend the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) Journalism Professional Practicum in Jakarta, Indonesia. The ACICIS programme typically consists of two weeks’ intensive Indonesian language training and seminars, followed by a four-week supervised industry placement with local or international media or communications organisation operating within Indonesia.
The Jefferson Fellowship grant provides New Zealand newsroom leaders or senior journalists the chance to participate in the East-West Center’s Jefferson Fellowship programme. This is a three-week reporting and study tour with the goal of leveraging news media to enhance public understanding of cultures, issues and trends in the Indo-Pacific region.
