Shanghai business studies forum
The Asia New Zealand Foundation (Asia:NZ) is offering 10-12 business studies heads of department or business studies, economics or commerce teachers the chance to take part in a professional development forum in Shanghai.
The forum runs from 24 June to 30 June 2012.
Purpose of the forum
The Shanghai forum is designed to deepen your knowledge of the region, which you can then draw on in your teaching.
You will:
- learn more about the importance of Asia to New Zealand
- gain firsthand experience of business in Asia, and the culture, customs, growth and development of the region
- deepen your understanding and knowledge of Shanghai and Asia.
What's involved
The programme will include:
- briefings from New Zealand Inc agencies and New Zealand businesses operating in China
- site visits to a manufacturing plant and other commercial operations
- a visit to the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre
- visits to local markets and a school.
- Applications have now closed.
Requirements for applicants
To apply, you must:
- be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- be working at a New Zealand school as a business studies head of department, or a teacher of business studies, commerce or economics
- work at a school that offers business studies, or will be introducing business studies by 2013
- work at a school that is striving to become Asia Aware, and have the full support of your principal.
Outcomes
What you will learn and be encouraged to do:
- Increase your knowledge and understanding of New Zealand’s relations with Shanghai and China.
- Develop strategies for including Asia in your teaching, and for promoting Asia awareness in your school and community.
- Support the development and implementation of Asia awareness throughout New Zealand schools, particularly in the business studies field.
- Expand your education networks nationally and internationally.
- Promote partnerships between New Zealand schools and businesses in China.
- Establish and develop networks between New Zealand educators and China.
- Identify key skills that young New Zealanders need to be part of an Asia-ready workforce.
Costs and financial assistance
Asia:NZ covers all in-country costs, including hotel accommodation, travel and food.
Airfares are not included – successful applicants will be responsible for their own airfares, travel insurance and personal spending money.
Asia:NZ will fund two travel awards (of up to $2,000 each). Details of the criteria for these awards are included on the application form.
