Artist-in-residence exchanges

Asia:NZ works with a number of partner institutions across New Zealand and Asia to offer a programme of artist residencies and work placements to emerging contemporary artists as well as arts and museum professionals.

We currently have four main programmes: you can find out conditions or participation or read about previous placement recipients and their projects.


Kiwi Samoan gets inaugural Taiwan arts residency

Andy Leleisi’uao's work blends his Samoan legacy with his New Zealand born heritage. He takes up the three month residency at the Taipei Artists Village beginning in February 2010.


Theatre in Motion, Beijing

Alyx Duncan takes up the inaugural Theatre in Motion residency in 2010.

Wellington Asia Residency Exchange (WARE)

A programme of residency exchanges between Wellington and Asia, in association with Wellington City Council.

Japan East Asia Network of Exchange of Students and Youths (JENESYS)

Auckland based Janet Lilo was the 2009 recipient. Applications for 2010 have now closed

Asia:NZ/Arts Centre of Christchurch Korean Residency Exchange

Annual exchange organised by Asia:NZ in partnership with The Korea Foundation and the Arts Centre of Christchurch

Hong Kong AiR

Asia:NZ facilitated the selection of the 2008 New Zealand representative, Eve Armstrong.
