Kimchi & Marmite Conference 2008 - Auckland

Start Time: Friday 18 July 2008
End Time: Saturday 19 July 2008

The Kowiana Association of New Zealand invites you to the Kimchi & Marmite Conference 2008: Finding Kowi - “What does it mean to be a Korean-Kiwi?”

Formed in 2007, Kowiana is a non-profit organisation composed of young Kiwi adults of Korean descent (“Kowi”) and their friends who share a vision of celebrating and promoting awareness of multicultural identity in New Zealand. The name itself is a celebration of such an identity, a fusion of the words “Korean” and “Kiwiana”. Unlike other Korean organisations in New Zealand, Kowiana is an organisation for Kowis AND their friends. Therefore, issues that the organisation is concerned with relate to cultural identities as Kowis and challenges directly faced by Kowis living in New Zealand. These issues are also indirectly faced by those who are connected (whether by friendship, relationship, or even family ties) to Kowis, and other parties who are interested in the changing face of New Zealand. We aim to reach and connect Kowis and their friends by providing education, support and networking opportunities to address issues of multiculturalism, and to celebrate multicultural identities.

The conference will take place on 19 July, with an opening dinner on 18 July.

Venue: University of Auckland Business School
