The Asia:NZ Cultural Grants Programme supports organisations and individuals running projects of merit that will educate New Zealanders about Asian arts and culture. The Foundation’s cultural grant programme is designed to:
- Provide professional development opportunities for arts professionals to enable them to build capacity in Asian arts knowledge
- Extend knowledge of Asian arts and culture in the community.

- Community groups
- Arts and cultural institutions
- Local and regional councils
- Festival and event organisers
- Individuals

Through Museums Aotearoa, we also offer the Asia:NZ Museums Award, which provides incentive support to museums and museum professionals for project development.

Funding Options
Asia:NZ has restricted funds and rarely gives grants of more than $4000.00 through the Culture Programme. Consider seeking additional sources of funding for your project.
- Applications for Japan-related projects may be made to the New Zealand Japan
Exchange Programme administered by International Languages Aotearoa New Zealand
(ILANZ). Grants are available to promote a deeper understanding between Japan
and NZ through a programme of educational and cultural exchanges.
New Zealand Japan Exchange Programme website - Some China-related projects may be eligible for funding from the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust. Projects must promote understanding of Chinese language and of Chinese New Zealand history and culture. The trust is administered by the Department of Internal Affairs.

- The Funding Information Service provides information about funding available in New Zealand. This is done through three searchable databases – Fundview, Corporate Citizens and Break Out. FIS charge a subscription fee.
Funding Information Service website - The NZ Live Cultural Funding Guide has a searchable database of funding organisations throughout the country.
NZ Live Cultural Funding Guide website - The Charity Gaming Association carries a list of trusts that offer grants to community organisations.
Charity Gaming Association website - Creative New Zealand offer a range of funding programmes for one-off arts projects. They offer grants for local community based arts activities through the Creative Communities Scheme and support for arts practitioners across all art forms through the Arts Board.
Creative NZ website - The NZ Lotteries Board offer grants to arts and cultural community groups. This is administered through the Department of Internal Affairs.
