The Asia New Zealand Foundation is proud to support Auckland Festival of Photography bring two photographers from Asia to New Zealand exhibit.
Mayumi Suzuki (Japan) will take part in a a panel discussion alongside artists Shahidul Alam (Bangladesh), Wendy Brandon (NZ), Ingetje Tadros (Western Australia), Dr Kriselle Baker (NZ).
A special event for your hearts and minds is this year’s inaugural “Photobook Friday”. We invite you to share some wonderful international and New Zealand photography stories, meet the artists, explore themes and discuss the design of the books.
‘Photobook Friday’ will explore themes of memory, remembrance and identity. Speakers will include international curator, artist and activist, Shahidul Alam from Bangladesh presenting on his book “The Best Years of My Life - Bangladeshi Migrants in Malaysia”. Mayumi Suzuki from Japan shares her recently published photobook, “The Restoration Will” featuring found family photographs in a conceptual work about grief, loss and memory.
There will also be a selection of other great photobooks on display including “Timor Runguranga: A photographic journey through Timor-Leste” by David Palazon. Eight years in the making, “Timor Runguranga” is the first contemporary photography book to emerge from the youngest independent nation in Asia. Selected as one of top four 2016 photobooks on South East Asia by UHCSEAS - The Center of South East Asia Studies.
