ASIA AFTER FIVE - Making a Community: Filipinos in Wellington
Social networking event
This month's Asia After Five will feature Dr Rebecca Townsend Hill’s report Making a Community: Filipinos in Wellington.
Rebecca will be speaking about her research and why it is significant for New Zealand-Asia relations.
We also welcome special guests Wellington-based interior architect and designer Mrs Flora Muriel Nogoy, and President of the Hutt Multicultural Council Mrs Anita Mansell, who will both share their views in the context of the report.
About Dr Rebecca Townsend Hill
Rebecca is an expert in Asian social and media dynamics and is the senior researcher for Foundation's Asia Media Centre. Prior to joining the Foundation, Rebecca earned her PhD in Southeast Asian History at Cornell University. Ever since traveling to the Lao PDR in 2007, Rebecca has been fascinated with the history, society, and foods of Southeast Asia. She now speaks Thai and Tagalog, has lived in Thailand, and loves making nam jim jaew (chili dipping sauce). After moving to Wellington in 2016, Rebecca worked for the Waitangi Tribunal Unit and began exploring the city’s walking trails.
