Mr Tran Ba Tuoc

Mr Tran Ba Tuoc, born in 1940, retired from Yara Vietnam (formerly known as Hydro Agri Vietnam) is now a Senior Advisor to Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Co. Ltd, a state-owned company involving in property and industrial development in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr Tuoc began his university studies in New Zealand under the Colombo Plan in 1961. He graduated from Victoria University in Wellington with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and then from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch where he obtained his Master's degree. In 1967, after his return to Saigon, he joined the National Bank of Vietnam (the central bank) with his serving longest in the Department of Currency Issue until April 1975. His last post at the Bank was serving as Director of Foreign Department, in charge of control and allocation of foreign exchange to importers.

From May 1975, Mr Tuoc worked for the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City’s branch). From 1980, he moved to one of the first import – export companies, ultimately becoming its Deputy Director. In 1995, he joined a joint venture company with Norsk Hydro of Norway, known as Hydro Agri Vietnam and then changed to Yara Vietnam until he retired in late 2006.

Mr Tuoc is currently Senior Advisor to Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company Ltd.

During his service at the central bank, he took part in IMF-World Bank, ADB annual meetings and other regional meetings. He was a member of the Economic Advisory Council to late Prime Minister, H.E. Vo Van Kiet. He is part time lecturer in International Payments at the Faculty of Business Administration of Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City and active member of an economic study group for 20 years.
