Due to political difficulties posed by the junta regime, New Zealand has limited relations with Myanmar (Burma), mostly through the framework of Myanmar’s ASEAN membership. Burmese students and refugees live in New Zealand, and a number of non-profit organisations provide assistance, mostly with humanitarian relief, in particular after the devastations caused by Cyclone Nargis.
