study visits to asia


New Zealand teachers may apply for grants to assist with the costs of study visits to Asia. The study visits must be structured programmes organised by education affiliated organisations with the aim of providing professional development opportunities for teachers. Visits will typically include opportunities to:

  • experience first-hand the peoples and cultures of the country
  • explore subjects relevant to the teacher's curriculum area and future teaching plans
  • attend/participate in relevant lectures/workshops
  • visit/participate in school programmes and network with counterparts
  • visit and/or homestay with local families

Eligibility

New Zealand registered teachers, lecturers and advisers working in areas of the curriculum where Asia is a focus of study are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to educators who:

  • are committed to increasing studies of Asia in the classroom
  • can demonstrate a capacity to effect curriculum change and provide leadership in studies of Asia
  • can demonstrate an ability to disseminate their knowledge widely
  • have the support of their governing body
  • have not previously received a grant/award from Asia:NZ to participate in a teacher study programme

Please note - teachers requesting funding for projects with commercial potential, including the recruitment of international students or for personal reasons will not be eligible.
