Kongmeng Ly

Kongmeng Ly, originally from Laos, is currently in his second semester of a scholarship-funded Master’s degree at Lincoln University in Christchurch.

He is pursuing a Master of Applied Science in the field of Environment Management. Kongmeng says that since his arrival in New Zealand he has been “interested to learn more about New Zealand culture and its relationship with Asian countries.” One observation he has made, for example, is that both Lao and New Zealand people are “very relaxed.”

Kongmeng’s involvement with the Asia:NZ Young Leaders Network began in November 2008, when he attended the annual network forum held in Wellington. Some of the highlights of the forum for him included meeting new people and a session focusing on the improvement of presentation skills.

On completion of his studies Kongmeng hopes to return to Laos to work as an environmental scientist with the Environmental Protection Agency.
