New Zealand delegation in Delhi and Kuala Lumpur talks

Asia:NZ led a delegation to Track II meetings in Delhi and Kuala Lumpur in December 2009.
The New Zealanders arrived in Delhi on 6 December and held an inaugural meeting with the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, a world-recognised Indian think-tank. Brian Lynch, Director of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs, gives his views on the two-day discussions. The papers presented by the delegation in Delhi included:

The delegation then moved on to Kuala Lumpur to attend the second meeting of the ASEAN/Australia/New Zealand Track II dialogue, organised by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies of Malaysia on behalf of ASEAN ISIS. Read our commentary on the 2009 dialogue. The first was held in December 2008, and a report can be viewed here. The discussions in Malaysia covered:
humanitarian assistance;trade relations between ASEAN and Australia and New Zealand;
security cooperation, and
cooperation and community building in the region.
The team from New Zealand included: Dr Richard Grant, executive director of the Foundation; Brian Lynch, director of the NZIIA; Professor Xiaoming Huang and Dr David Capie from Victoria University of Wellington, and Dr Mark Rolls from Waikato University. One of Asia:NZ's young leaders, Pia McKay, joined the delegation for both the Indian and Malaysian legs and has since sent us on her reflections on the trip.
