Hawke's Bay Today editor enjoys a fruitful trip to China
Natalie Gauld, editor of Hawke’s Bay Today travelled to China with the support of Asia:NZ at the end of August 2009.
Spending her time in and around Beijing, highlights of the trip included visits to the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and a hutong tour. She also took in the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, two 2008 Olympic venues now among China’s most popular attractions (Read her travel article on Beijing). She was also wowed by the skills of the martial arts centre students at the Shaolin Temple. (Read article).
Official engagements included a welcome banquet hosted by a high-level Chinese delegation, where the upcoming Shanghai World Expo in 2010 was discussed at length (see article). The trip left Natalie with an appreciation of the importance of sister city relationships (see article).
