Let's share Diwali

This social sciences unit explores the traditions surrounding Diwali which is an important and ancient Indian festival celebrated throughout India and in Indian communities around the world. This unit of work encourages students to explore how Diwali is celebrated and to discover why this festival is significant to the peoples of India. Students will use an inquiry approach to develop their understandings.

Diwali is celebrated in October/November each year. Diwali Festival of Lights is held in Wellington and Auckland and takes place this year in mid-October. This event gives Indian communities the opportunity to share their traditions and culture with other New Zealanders.
