Principals' Asia Aware Network
The Principals’ Asia Aware Network (PAAN) has been set up by the Asia New Zealand Foundation (Asia:NZ) to support principals in preparing young New Zealanders for their future, of which Asia will be a part.
The network gives principals the opportunity to:
- prepare young New Zealanders to be global citizens and to live and work successfully in the 21st Century
- learn more about the importance of Asia to New Zealand and the need for young New Zealanders to be Asia Aware
- connect with like-minded principals who are already developing Asia Aware schools.
If you want to learn more about why it's important to teach students about other cultures, watch the video below, which highlights how globalisation has created a new set of skills and knowledge that our young people need to have.
Where does PAAN operate?
The Principals' Asia Awareness Network is currently established in five New Zealand regions: Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Christchurch, Otago and Wellington.
Benefits of joining PAAN
Members of PAAN will have priority access to:
- professional learning opportunities for yourself and your staff, in New Zealand and in Asia, to learn more about Asia and ways of developing Asia Aware students
- opportunities to connect with Asia - for both staff and students
- Asia Aware grants to support Asia Aware initiatives in your school
- resources, case studies and ideas for developing Asia Aware schools
- for secondary schools, participation in Asia:NZ’s business education programme
- links to Asia:NZ’s other programmes, opportunities and networks
- connections with like-minded principals who are on the journey to developing Asia Aware schools
- the support of a regional coordinator.
How to join PAAN
Email your name, school, address, email address and phone number to schools coordinator Brenda Bell at bbell@asianz.org.nz.
We will then confirm your registration.
Note: This network is exclusively for principals in New Zealand. We also expect principals to commit to attending the two regional meetings held each year (if possible).
What if I’m not in one of the five main regions?
You are still welcome to join PAAN, but we don't currently have the capacity to offer professional learning events in your region.
