JENESYS Programme 2009/2010: Invitation Programme for Creators
A residency opportunity of up to two and a half months for young (35 and under) professionals in artistic/creative fields is being offered as part of the JENESYS programme, administered by the Japan Foundation in partnership with the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
This programme, which is being offered in 13 Asia Pacific countries including New Zealand, is aimed at emerging arts professionals aged 35 or under practising in the fields of video, film, visual art or electronic music. Previous New Zealand participants have been writer Carl Shuker and video artist Janet Lilo.
The residency, available for a period from mid April – June 2010, will be hosted by NPO S-AIR in Sapporo. S-AIR will provide the recipient with opportunities to produce artworks, exchange ideas for collaboration, develop networks, and work on other activities that may enhance communication and understanding among their creative peers.
The recipient will be encouraged to present the outcomes of his or her residency experiences in the forms of a public event in Japan as well as in New Zealand after they return.
The artist will receive a return economy airfare between Japan and New Zealand, accommodation, and a stipend of 240,000 JPY per month covering per diems and production costs.
Professional practising artists with a record of achievement in the preferred genres of arts practice are invited to submit a written application to Asia New Zealand Foundation by no later than 5pm on Friday, February 12, 2010.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, residing in New Zealand and able to exercise a degree of autonomy and self reliance.
A panel appointed by the Asia New Zealand Foundation will select a shortlist of candidates, from which the Japan Foundation and NPO S-AIR will make a choice. Selection criteria will include:
- a specific artistic rationale for wishing to be resident in Japan;
