Student realise that lanterns:

  • are used to light the way
  • have a light source covered in translucent or transparent material
  • are using hung or held from above
  • can vary in shape and size

Rectangles can be strengthened by using triangulation.

Structures often contain triangles and cylinder shapes which enhance their strength.

An icon is a simple shape/picture that signifies information to the user.

Technological Capability

The lantern must:

  • be hollow
  • be covered in transparent or translucent material that does not melt
  • be aesthetically pleasing and colourful
  • reflect aspects of Chinese culture
  • reflect aspects of the local community
