Specific Learning Outcomes

The Visual Arts

  • Design a Chinese lantern selecting ways of using the art elements and principles in planning drawings, using dry media
  • Select visual arts elements and principles to design a decorative effect for the lanterns
  • Translate these ideas into a three dimensional lantern selecting appropriate materials
  • Investigate and describe the ways that different media affect the communication of ideas in a selection of Chinese lanterns

Note: The Developing Ideas strand is relevant to all level activities. It involves the process of expressing ideas through making art works in response to motivations using imagination and invention with materials. Teachers might want to write Specific Learning Outcomes for this strand so they can reward students for their invention and imagination.

Dance

  • Explore through photos how the dragon moves in the dragon dance and practice and co-ordinate some movement sequences in groups using a choreographer

Music

  • Use the beat of a drum to co-ordinate movements in a team dragon dance

Drama

  • In a group, plan and develop a mime that will tell a Lantern Festival story. Decide which of the characters would be best suited to the role of stilt walkers
