Dylan Quinnell, an AUT journalism graduate, was on the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS)  journalism professional practicum in Jakarta in January and February 2008. His participation, along with that of two other graduates, was supported by the Asia New Zealand Foundation and the Pacific Media Centre.

Dylan writes about learning the Indonesian language and working in the local newsroom as well as getting the opportunity to make a documentary and interview some high-profile political and diplomatic figures. He was so attracted to working in Indonesia that he extended his stay there with a short-term role at an international forest research organisation.
