Xiao Ma is China’s first countertenor. Thanks to an extraordinary ability to move between male and mezzo‐soprano registers his repertoire ranges from baroque arias through to Chinese folk and pop music.
Until now rarely heard outside of China, Xiao Ma’s visit to New Zealand is supported by the Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington, Asia:NZ Foundation, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Chinese Embassy, to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between New Zealand and China.
