The residency runs for three months, from September to November. Artists work towards presenting at an exhibition in CEAC gallery or an open studio at the end of the residency.
The CEAC was initiated in 1999 as a joint venture with the Xiamen University Art College. CEAC is widely known for its pioneering role in China as a non-commercial art space, and for the excellent guidance it provides for artists conducting research and producing new work.
The art centre is located in an old neighbourhood called Siming District in Xiamen and with many diverse small restaurants and a shopping centre with boutique shops, markets and pubs. Nearby is the Nanputuo Temple and Xiamen University.
The chosen artist receives support throughout their residency, including return flights, a daily allowance for living costs, exhibition materials, self-contained accommodation and a studio space to work.
While in Xiamen, you will work towards developing a project to present at an open studio at the conclusion of the residency.
You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with local artists, as well as other international artists taking part in the programme.
