Asia Matters to New Zealand

Asia Matters to New Zealand is a new interactive resource you can use to visualise and compare the many connections between New Zealand and Asian countries and peoples.

It’s designed to showcase the importance of these links to New Zealand, and to the Asia-Pacific as a whole. These long-standing links have been established through trade, investment and migration – among other things.

We begin by looking at the eight largest Asian ethnic groups in New Zealand, based on Census data, and give projections for these populations for 2011 to 2026. (Note: 2011 Census data was not collected due to the Canterbury earthquake.)

We’ll be adding a series of feature topics to this resource over the coming months.
